ואתו אנשי זיף לות שאול לגבעתא למימר הלא דוד מטמר בגבעתא דחכילה די על אפי ישימון:
yshymwn apy el dy dkhkylh bgbetha mTmr dwd hla lmymr lgbetha shawl lwth zyp anshy wathw
The Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?”

וקם שאול ונחת למדברא דזיף ועמיה תלתא אלפין גברא בחורי ישראל למבעי ית דוד במדברא דזיף:
dzyp bmdbra dwd yth lmbey yshral bkhwry gbra alpyn thltha wemyh dzyp lmdbra wnkhth shawl wqm
Then Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

ושרא שאול בגבעת חבילה די על אפי ישימון על אורחא ודוד יתיב במדברא וחזא ארי אתא שאול בתרוהי למדברא:
lmdbra bthrwhy shawl atha ary wkhza bmdbra ythyb wdwd awrkha el yshymwn apy el dy khbylh bgbeth shawl wshra
Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

ושלח דוד מאללין וידע ארי אתא שאול בקשוט:
bqshwT shawl atha ary wyde mallyn dwd wshlkh
David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had certainly come.

וקם דוד ואתא לאתרא די שרא תמן שאול וחזא דוד ית אתרא דשכב תמן שאול ואבנר בר נר רב חיליה ושאול שכיב בכרכומא ועמא שרן סחרנוהי:
skhrnwhy shrn wema bkrkwma shkyb wshawl khylyh rb nr br wabnr shawl thmn dshkb athra yth dwd wkhza shawl thmn shra dy lathra watha dwd wqm
Then David arose and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David saw the place where Saul lay, with Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army. Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped around him.

ואתיב דוד ואמר לאחימלך חתאה ולאבישי בר צרויה אחוהי דיואב למימר מן יחות עמי לות שאול למשריתא ואמר אבישי אנא איחות עמך:
emk aykhwth ana abyshy wamr lmshrytha shawl lwth emy ykhwth mn lmymr dywab akhwhy tsrwyh br wlabyshy khthah lakhymlk wamr dwd wathyb
Then David answered and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?” Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”

ואתא דוד ואבישי לות עמא בליליא והא שאול שכיב דמוך בכרכומא ומורניתיה נעיצא בארעא איסדוהי ואבנר ועמא שרן סחרנוהי:
skhrnwhy shrn wema wabnr aysdwhy barea neytsa wmwrnythyh bkrkwma dmwk shkyb shawl wha blylya ema lwth wabyshy dwd watha
So David and Abishai came to the people by night; and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay around him.

ואמר אבישי לדוד מסר יי יומא דין ית בעיל דבבך בידך וכען אמחיניה כען במורניתא ואברזיניה בארעא זמנא חדא ולא אשני ליה:
lyh ashny wla khda zmna barea wabrzynyh bmwrnytha ken amkhynyh wken bydk dbbk beyl yth dyn ywma yy msr ldwd abyshy wamr
Then Abishai said to David, “God has delivered up your enemy into your hand today. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.”

ואמר דוד לאבישי לא תחבליניה ארי מן אושיט ידיה במשיחא דיי וזכי:
wzky dyy bmshykha ydyh awshyT mn ary thkhblynyh la labyshy dwd wamr
David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against Yahweh’s anointed, and be guiltless?”

ואמר דוד קים הוא יי אלהין מן קדם יי יתמחי או יומיה ימטי וימות או בקרבא יחות ויתקטל:
wythqTl ykhwth bqrba aw wymwth ymTy ywmyh aw ythmkhy yy qdm mn alhyn yy hwa qym dwd wamr
David said, “As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will strike him; or his day shall come to die, or he shall go down into battle and perish.

חס לי מן קדם יי מלאושטא ידי במשיחא דיי וכען סב ית מורניתא די איסדוהי וית מנא דמיא וניזיל לנא:
lna wnyzyl dmya mna wyth aysdwhy dy mwrnytha yth sb wken dyy bmshykha ydy mlawshTa yy qdm mn ly khs
Yahweh forbid that I should stretch out my hand against Yahweh’s anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head and the jar of water, and let’s go.”

ונסיב דוד ית מורניתא וית מנא דמיא מאיסדי שאול ואזלו להון ולית דחזי ולית דידע ולית דמתער ארי כולהון דמכין ארי שינא תקיפא מן קדם יי נפלת עליהון:
elyhwn nplth yy qdm mn thqypa shyna ary dmkyn kwlhwn ary dmther wlyth dyde wlyth dkhzy wlyth lhwn wazlw shawl maysdy dmya mna wyth mwrnytha yth dwd wnsyb
So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul’s head, and they went away. No man saw it, or knew it, nor did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh had fallen on them.

ועבר דוד עברא וקם על ריש טורא מרחיק סגי אתרא ביניהון:
bynyhwn athra sgy mrkhyq Twra rysh el wqm ebra dwd webr
Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain far away, a great space being between them;

וקרא דוד לעמא ולאבנר בר נר למימר הלא תעני אבנר ואתיב אבנר ואמר מן דין דקרי בריש מלכא:
mlka brysh dqry dyn mn wamr abnr wathyb abnr theny hla lmymr nr br wlabnr lema dwd wqra
and David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Don’t you answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered, “Who are you who calls to the king?”

ואמר דוד לאבנר הלא גבר גבר את ומן כותך בישראל ולמא לא נטרתא על רבונך מלכא ארי אתא חד מן עמא לחבלא ית מלכא רבונך:
rbwnk mlka yth lkhbla ema mn khd atha ary mlka rbwnk el nTrtha la wlma byshral kwthk wmn ath gbr gbr hla labnr dwd wamr
David said to Abner, “Aren’t you a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king.

לא תקין פתגמא הדין די עבדתא קיים הוא יי ארי גברין חיבי קטול אתון דלא נטרתון על רבונכון על משיחא דיי וכען חזי אן מורניתא דמלכא וית מנא דמיא דאיסדוהי:
daysdwhy dmya mna wyth dmlka mwrnytha an khzy wken dyy mshykha el rbwnkwn el nTrthwn dla athwn qTwl khyby gbryn ary yy hwa qyym ebdtha dy hdyn pthgma thqyn la
This thing isn’t good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh’s anointed. Now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head.”
17
ואשתמודע שאול ית קלא דדוד ואמר הקלך דין ברי דוד ואמר דוד קלי רבוני מלכא:
mlka rbwny qly dwd wamr dwd bry dyn hqlk wamr ddwd qla yth shawl washthmwde
Saul recognized David’s voice, and said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.”

ואמר למא דנן רבוני רדיף בתר עבדיה ארי מה עבדית ומה בידי חובא:
khwba bydy wmh ebdyth mh ary ebdyh bthr rdyp rbwny dnn lma wamr
He said, “Why does my lord pursue his servant? For what have I done? What evil is in my hand?

וכען ישמע כען רבוני מלכא ית פתגמי עבדיה אם מן קדם יי אתגרית בי יקבל קורבני ברעוא ואם בני אנשא ליטין אנון קדם יי ארי תריכוני יומא דין מלמידר באחסנת עמא דיי למימר אזיל דוד ביני עממיא פלחי טעותא:
Tewtha plkhy emmya byny dwd azyl lmymr dyy ema bakhsnth mlmydr dyn ywma thrykwny ary yy qdm anwn lyTyn ansha bny wam brewa qwrbny yqbl by athgryth yy qdm mn am ebdyh pthgmy yth mlka rbwny ken yshme wken
Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out today that I shouldn’t cling to Yahweh’s inheritance, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods!’

וכען לא יתשד דמי לארעא מן קדם מימרא דיי ארי נפק מלכא דישראל למיבעי ית חלש חד כמא דמתרדיף קוראה בטוריא:
bTwrya qwrah dmthrdyp kma khd khlsh yth lmybey dyshral mlka npq ary dyy mymra qdm mn larea dmy ythshd la wken
Now therefore, don’t let my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Yahweh; for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”

ואמר שאול חבית תוב ברי דוד ארי לא אבאיש לך עוד חלף דיקרת נפשי בעינך יומא הדין הא אסתכלית ואטפשית סגי לחדא:
lkhda sgy waTpshyth asthklyth ha hdyn ywma beynk npshy dyqrth khlp ewd lk abaysh la ary dwd bry thwb khbyth shawl wamr
Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes today. Behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.”

ואתיב דוד ואמר הא מורניתא דמלכא ויעבר חד מעולמיא ויסבה:
wysbh mewlmya khd wyebr dmlka mwrnytha ha wamr dwd wathyb
David answered, “Behold the spear, O king! Let one of the young men come over and get it.
23
ויי יתיב לגבר ית זכותיה וית קושטיה דמסרך יי יומא דין בידי ולא אביתי לאושטא ידי במשיחא דיי:
dyy bmshykha ydy lawshTa abythy wla bydy dyn ywma yy dmsrk qwshTyh wyth zkwthyh yth lgbr ythyb wyy
Yahweh will give to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t stretch out my hand against Yahweh’s anointed.

והא כמא די יקרת נפשך יומא דין בעיני כן תיקר נפשי קדם יי וישיזבינני מכל עקא:
eqa mkl wyshyzbynny yy qdm npshy thyqr kn beyny dyn ywma npshk yqrth dy kma wha
Behold, as your life was respected today in my eyes, so let my life be respected in Yahweh’s eyes, and let him deliver me out of all oppression.”

ואמר שאול לדוד בריך את ברי דוד אף ממלך תמלוך ואף אצלח תצלח ואזל דוד לאורחיה ושאול תב לאתריה:
lathryh thb wshawl lawrkhyh dwd wazl thtslkh atslkh wap thmlwk mmlk ap dwd bry ath bryk ldwd shawl wamr
Then Saul said to David, “You are blessed, my son David. You will both do mightily, and will surely prevail.” So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.
